With a portfolio as expansive as his, many would assume Zed Benson has little left to prove. Yet the Ghanaian creative continues to approach every new project with the curiosity and determination of someone still chasing their first breakthrough. For him, creativity is not simply a profession—it is a lifelong pursuit.

Long before his 34th birthday, Benson had already established himself as one of Ghana’s most versatile creative professionals. His journey has seen him excel as a graphic designer, photographer, marketer, content producer, actor, filmmaker, distributor, and creative director. Each role has added another layer to a career built on constant evolution, demonstrating a mindset that refuses to settle for familiarity.

That drive led him to the prestigious Beijing Film Academy, where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. Arriving in China in 2009 marked his first experience living outside Ghana, and adapting to a completely different culture proved to be both exciting and demanding.

“Life in China was quite intimidating at first. It was my first time abroad, so there was a lot to adjust to—the language, the culture, the weather. But I stayed headstrong, and my dream of becoming a filmmaker and entrepreneur kept me going,” Benson recalls.

The challenges ultimately became stepping stones. Just three days after graduating, Benson secured his first professional role at Road Pictures. Initially recruited as a graphic designer, he quickly demonstrated an ability to excel far beyond his job description.

“I initially joined as a graphic designer, but I ended up doing everything they threw at me—photography, video editing, vlogging—and eventually worked my way up to Creative Director.”

His willingness to embrace every opportunity accelerated his rise within the company and exposed him to some of the world’s biggest entertainment brands. During his time at Road Pictures, Benson collaborated on marketing campaigns involving industry giants including Alibaba Pictures, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, and Twentieth Century Fox.

Working alongside international creative teams, he contributed to promotional campaigns for blockbuster productions such as Avengers, Justice League, Tomb Raider, and Alita: Battle Angel. The experience sharpened both his technical expertise and his understanding of global creative marketing, while opening doors to collaborations across film, fashion, technology, and commercial branding.

Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Benson later expanded his experience through leadership roles at Uniway Communications and ME Production Agency, serving as Assistant Entertainment Director and Director of Photography, respectively. Rather than remaining comfortable within established organisations, he sought new challenges that allowed him to shape projects from the ground up.

Together with three partners, he co-founded Dream Team, an entertainment company that quickly gained recognition for organising high-profile events across China. The company successfully delivered productions including the Soulja Boy China Tour, the Iyanya Club Tour, and the Wild Wasted Wet summer parties, establishing itself as an influential player within the entertainment scene.

Like many businesses around the world, however, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted those ambitions. After spending nearly a decade in China, Benson made the decision to return home to Ghana, bringing with him a wealth of international experience and a renewed vision for Africa’s creative industry.

His homecoming marked the beginning of another chapter. Rather than viewing Ghana’s creative landscape through the lens of limitation, Benson saw opportunity.

“I saw what was missing and what could be done better,” he says.

Determined to bridge those gaps, he launched initiatives designed to strengthen the country’s creative ecosystem. Through ZEDSTUDIO, he helps businesses and brands transform ideas into compelling visual identities, while Cinetek provides filmmakers with access to professional production equipment and technical support. Together, these ventures reflect his commitment to raising production standards and empowering fellow creatives.

Today, Benson continues to divide his time between photography, filmmaking, creative direction, and entrepreneurship. His work regularly takes him across continents, where he collaborates with musicians, filmmakers, brands, and creative professionals on projects that blend technical precision with authentic storytelling.

Despite managing multiple businesses, he remains deeply connected to personal creative expression.

“Being creative is at the core of my existence. I knew that before everything else. I’ve learned to see the world through two lenses, and together they keep me going.”

Ask whether he has considered slowing down, and his answer arrives with a smile.

“The grind continues. I’ll keep telling good stories, helping others bring their vision to life, and enjoying every step of the journey.”

For Zed Benson, success has never been measured by titles alone. It is defined by growth, impact, and the willingness to keep creating long after others would have stopped. His story stands as a reminder that true creativity is never static—it evolves, challenges convention, and constantly searches for the next idea waiting to be brought to life.
