Legendary singer Lionel Richie has postponed two upcoming concerts after experiencing a health scare during the opening night of his latest tour.
The 77-year-old music icon was advised by doctors to rest after he became dizzy while performing in Minnesota. As a result, his scheduled concerts in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, have been postponed while he focuses on recovering.
A statement released by his team said Richie is expected to return to the stage on June 30 in Pittsburgh. They also expressed his disappointment over postponing the shows and apologized to fans, adding that new dates for the affected concerts will be announced soon.
During his performance in Minnesota, Richie told the audience he was feeling dizzy before continuing to perform his hit song Dancing on the Ceiling while seated.”When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” he joked, drawing cheers from the crowd.He later admitted it was the first time he had ever performed the song while sitting, saying it was “a bad sign.”After performing Three Times a Lady at the piano, Richie announced a short intermission. However, members of his band later informed the audience that he was too unwell to continue the show.One of his bandmates suggested Richie may have been slightly dehydrated, though no official details about his condition have been released.
The Sing A Song All Night Long tour, featuring Earth, Wind & Fire, kicked off in Minnesota and is expected to continue once Richie has fully recovered.
