This is why MTN Ghana users can’t purchase data and airtime on Jan 2, 2026

[ad_1]

MTN Ghana has announced that it will be engaged in maintenance work on its network on January 2, 2026.

The maintenance is part of the process to prepare for the new VAT reform tariffs.

The telecommunications giant cautioned that from 12 am to 4 am on January 2, 2026, subscribers will not be able to purchase data bundles and airtime.

The VAT Reform is part of a broader government effort to streamline revenue collection and adjust the consumption tax on digital services.

For a market leader like MTN, these proactive system updates are essential to prevent billing discrepancies that could arise from the old tax rates overlapping with the new legal requirements.

It used the opportunity to apologise to its subscribers for the inconvenience this would cause, but urged users to purchase data and airtime before the specified date.
