Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has shared her thoughts on the current state of African music, saying the industry is not declining but simply going through an important correction phase.
Speaking during the Oxford Africa Conference, Tiwa explained that the slowdown in the fast rise of African music is actually creating room for artists and industry players to focus on building stronger structures that can support long-term growth.
According to her, many global music genres like hip-hop, R&B, and pop have experienced similar phases in the past, and African music is no different.Tiwa said the industry now has the opportunity to fix areas that need improvement instead of mistaking the changes for a total collapse.
In her words, she was pleased to speak at the conference because it gave her the chance to address the growing belief that African music is losing momentum. She explained that what people are witnessing is a healthy transition where attention is shifting from rapid popularity to building sustainable systems for the future. The singer added that although there is still a lot of work to be done within the industry, the current situation should be seen as growth and adjustment rather than failure.
