Gomoa Central MP Kwame A Plus has framed President John Dramani Mahama’s Christmas visit to the constituency as a powerful symbol of leadership, continuity and national renewal.

Describing the occasion as an honour, the MP said hosting the President and First Lady, Lordina Mahama, at Crown Forest during the holidays carried deep meaning for the people of Gomoa.

“This was not just about rest and relaxation. It was a moment that reminded us that Gomoa Central stands at the intersection of history and destiny,” he said.

Kwame A Plus drew parallels between Ghana’s founding vision and the current administration’s economic agenda.

“This is where Nkrumah’s dream of an industrialised Ghana meets Mahama’s bold vision of a 24-Hour Economy to reset our nation,” he stated.

According to the MP, what makes the visit significant is the shift from political rhetoric to visible action.

“This is no longer an idea. This is no longer a campaign promise. It is happening,” he stressed.

He pointed to the President’s commitment to personally attend key project milestones as proof that the government is invested in turning policy into reality.

Beyond policy and projects, Kwame A Plus said the visit sent a strong message of inclusion and national unity.

“The future we have spoken about is taking shape right here, right now, in Gomoa Central,” he noted.

The MP also expressed gratitude to President Mahama for choosing Gomoa as his Christmas destination, describing it as a gesture that strengthened the bond between leadership and the grassroots.

“Thank you for coming, Sir. Like Oliver Twist, we hope to see you again very soon,” he added with a touch of humour.

He concluded by reaffirming the constituency’s readiness to embrace progress.“Gomoa Central is ready. We are ready to work, ready to grow, and ready to take our place on the national stage,” he said.

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has rebuked Kofi Ofosu Nkansah over claims suggesting that the Akufo-Addo administration laid the foundation for the revitalisation of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

The exchange was triggered by a Facebook post from Kofi Ofosu Nkansah which was sighted by MyNewsGh, who questioned whether the current NDC administration could clearly explain what it had added to TOR to justify taking credit for its revival.

In his post, Ofosu Nkansah argued that the Akufo-Addo government had already secured a non-collateralised $240 million investment to rehabilitate and expand the refinery, insisting that the new administration must demonstrate what additional value it has brought.

“Can the NDC administration tell us exactly what they have added to TOR to claim the credit for its revitalisation?” Ofosu Nkansah asked, asserting that the previous government had made tangible progress toward restoring the refinery.

However, Franklin Cudjoe swiftly rejected that narrative, delivering a blunt rebuttal in the comments section. “Bros, please don’t do this to yourself,” he wrote, directly addressing Ofosu Nkansah.

Cudjoe dismissed the claim that the Akufo-Addo government secured or implemented any meaningful intervention to revive TOR, describing the assertion as misleading. “Nana Addo and his kith and kin did nothing of the sort you are describing,” he stated.

According to the IMANI Africa boss, far from revitalising the refinery, the former administration presided over its total collapse. “They simply pillaged and rendered TOR moribund, actually dead,” Cudjoe said.

Governance analyst Professor Kwaku Agyeman-Duah has rejected proposals by the Constitutional Review Committee to reduce Ghana’s minimum presidential age from 40 to 30 years, arguing that the country’s social and educational realities make such a move impractical.

Prof Agyeman-Duah said Ghana’s context must be central to constitutional reforms, noting that many citizens complete their formal education much later in life.

“I think if you take the Ghanaian context into account, for instance, you finish school, well, some do finish school very early, but most Ghanaians from the villages, as I come from, by the time you finish your first year, you are almost 27, 28,” he said on JoyNews on December 27, 2025.

He questioned whether a 30-year-old, even with advanced academic qualifications, would have accumulated enough exposure to govern a complex state like Ghana.

“And even if by then you have finished your master’s, what experience do you have, what exposure have you had to run the country? And run the country is not running a NUGS organization,” he stressed.

Drawing on his own experience, Prof Agyeman-Duah argued that leadership of a sovereign nation demands maturity that comes with age and prolonged engagement with society.

“Knowing what I know, and at my age, I know that 30 years simply means you haven’t attained the age of maturity to run a nation, that’s what I’m talking about,” he said.

In a nutshell, he said the presidency requires more than academic credentials, insisting that life experience and national exposure remain critical to effective leadership.

Professor Kwaku Agyeman-Duah has warned that reducing Ghana’s presidential age requirement to 30 could destabilize the country if implemented without deeper reflection on leadership demands and democratic responsibility.

Appearing on JoyNews, the governance analyst cautioned that democracy must be balanced with wisdom and guidance, especially when national stability is at stake.

“We are going to have a chaotic situation in society. So, there’s always the need for people like you and I to provide the kind of guidance that will be needed to make sure, even if a majority of people are opposed to it, there’s a certain wisdom that will help us to move,” he stated.

Prof Agyeman-Duah emphasized that leadership at the highest level cannot be equated with electoral popularity or the ability to win parliamentary seats.

“Parliament, you are elected by your constituents, maybe 15,000 people, where there’s no real scrutiny of your character or your experience or anything. Being a parliamentarian is not the same as being the president of a sovereign nation,” he said.

He further pointed to the growing complexity of global affairs, arguing that a president must possess a deep understanding of international dynamics to effectively represent Ghana on the world stage.

“In international relations today, the changes that are occurring, what is the extent of your understanding in order to take this country to deal with the global context? So, there’s more to it,” Prof Agyeman-Duah added.

He maintained that constitutional reforms should prioritize national interest and stability over populist demands, warning that leadership without sufficient experience could expose the country to serious risks.

Professor Priscilla Kolibea Mante of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has gained international recognition after being selected for inclusion in UNESCO’s newly launched Virtual Science Museum, a global digital platform dedicated to telling science stories from diverse cultures and regions.

Prof Mante’s profile appears in the museum’s inaugural exhibition, Women in Science, A Story in Motion, which celebrates women scientists whose work continues to reshape scientific understanding across generations and cultures.

A leading African neuroscientist, Prof Mante is widely recognised for her research into the neurobiology and pharmacological treatment of mental and neurological conditions, including epilepsy, depression, anxiety and neuroinflammation.

Her work places particular emphasis on drug-resistant epilepsy and the therapeutic potential of African medicinal plants.

In addition to her scientific contributions, she has been actively involved in promoting the participation of young scientists in international research and policy discussions, helping to bridge science, inclusion and global decision-making.
