Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Tems and former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama recently came together at the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago, where they engaged with young aspiring artists in a newly launched creative space.
The meeting took place at the Centre’s Media Suite in Jackson Park, a facility designed to give young people access to music production tools, podcasting equipment, and creative training opportunities.
The hub was officially introduced during the Centre’s launch events held between June 18 and 21, 2026.Michelle Obama shared moments from the visit on social media, expressing hope that the Media Suite would help young people discover their voices and develop their artistic skills.
She emphasized that the space was created to encourage creativity and self-expression among the next generation.During the session, Tems interacted with young female artists, sharing her journey and encouraging them to stay authentic in their craft. She noted that embracing one’s true identity is key to building confidence as an artist.
Tems also highlighted her initiative, Leading Vibe, which supports young women in music and helps them grow in the industry. She said she strongly believes in empowering upcoming talents through guidance and opportunity.
Michelle Obama also spoke about confidence, explaining that it develops over time through practice, consistency, and experience. She encouraged the young participants to use the Centre as a safe space to explore their talents and build their self-belief.
Tems later described the experience as inspiring, saying she was grateful for the opportunity to meet and encourage the young artists alongside Michelle Obama.The Obama Presidential Centre’s opening events also featured performances and appearances from global stars including Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, and John Legend, marking a major cultural celebration.
