Lightwave Accuses NHIA of Audit Irregularities, Questions Competitor’s Role in Probe

Eric Adjei, Project Coordinator for Lightwave eHealth Solutions, has raised serious concerns about what he describes as troubling irregularities in an audit conducted by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) into the company’s operations.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, Adjei suggested that certain developments surrounding the audit point more to personal or institutional conflicts than to any genuine procedural issues. He emphasised that while the company has always cooperated with audits and investigations, the process in this case appears compromised.

According to him, Lightwave — developers of the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS) — was surprised to learn that a competing institution had been tasked with leading aspects of the audit, a move he believes undermines the credibility of the exercise.

“We do not have any problem with any institution going to do an audit or investigation. But again, why do you send a competitor to go do an audit?” he questioned.

He further revealed that GH₵10.45 million, which was originally allocated to Lightwave from NHIA funds, had been redirected to the auditing institution in 2024. Adjei described the transaction as deeply unusual and insisted that only the Minister of Health can explain the circumstances behind it.

The dispute comes at a time when the Ministry of Health is accusing Lightwave of breaching a $100 million contract by failing to connect 950 health facilities to the LHIMS platform. Adjei dismissed the allegation, insisting that Lightwave has fulfilled its contractual obligations and that the financial and audit inconsistencies suggest a much deeper unresolved issue.

“There is some form of hidden mystery which I think only the Minister of Health, the current minister, will be able to answer,” he said. “We’ve done our checks, and everything points to one particular direction.”

Lightwave eHealth Solutions remains a major partner in Ghana’s digital health transformation agenda, working to enhance service delivery, data management, and efficiency across the system. The situation, however, highlights broader concerns about oversight, transparency, and the management of public-private partnerships within the country’s health sector.
