Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy has reached another career milestone after becoming the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners in Spotify history.
The Grammy-winning singer surpassed the previous record with more than 47 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, overtaking South African star Tyla’s previous benchmark.Burna Boy’s impressive rise has been fueled largely by the success of his collaboration with Colombian singer Shakira on the song Dai Dai.
The hit has attracted massive global attention and continues to gain streams from listeners around the world.The track also reached the top of Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart, making Burna Boy the first African artist in a decade to achieve the feat. The last African act to top the chart was Wizkid, whose collaboration with Drake on One Dance dominated the platform in 2016.With his monthly listener count continuing to climb, Burna Boy is now on course to become the first African artist to surpass 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s biggest global music stars.
