Former Vice President of Ghana and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated his commitment to the welfare of party folks if given the nod to lead the NPP.

According to him, it is imperative for people who work for the party to be prioritised, and that will be his focus if voted for.

In a post shared via social media after his tour in some parts of the Greater Accra Region, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was grateful for the endorsements he has received so far.

He urged the party and its members to work together to ensure victory in the 2028 election for the NPP.

“While I continue to receive ringing endorsements from fellow patriots across the Greater Accra Region, I am particularly inspired by their positive responses to my policies, especially those aimed at addressing their concerns.

As I reiterated yesterday in Shai Osudoku, Adenta and Madina constituencies respectively, prioritising the welfare of hardworking patriots, who make invaluable contributions to the success of our party, remains a key objective for me.

Let’s continue to work together for our collective victory in January and in 2028, by the grace of God”.

A respected Islamic cleric based in Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital, his wife and another Hajia have been busted for illegal drug trade.

The Muslim leader who is said to be the wholesale supplier of the contraband substance, uses his Hajia wife and another accomplice as retailers unknown to him his activities were closely monitored by the IGP’s Special Operations Taskforce, currently based in the Region.

He is even reported to have at one point struck up some friendship with the leader of the Taskforce DSP Ahaji Jalil Bawah, where he visited him and prayed for him.

Speaking at a public event on efforts made to clamp down on the trade of illegal drugs within the ancient region and surrounding areas, DSP Jalil Bawah sent a strong signal to those who feel they can get off the radar of his men to be warned that he will come after them.

“We have arrested a Hajia upon a tip-off that she was dealing in the illicit drug trade. I ordered my men to search her and the females among them did, and our suspicion was confirmed. . Upon her arrest, we searched her house we discovered the illicit drugs and large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. When asked who her supplier was she mentioned the name of the wife of a popular Islamic cleric who also mentioned the name of the son of a prominent person. During investigations, it was uncovered that the so-called Islamic cleric is the main supplier. As we speak, he is on remand. We must start to name and shame some of them”, he revealed.

According to him, the alarming trade of illicit drugs is a major threat to the future of the youth, calling on all stakeholders to work towards supporting the taskforce in ending the menace in the region

Head of IGP’s Special Operations Taskforce fighting the alarming illegal drug trade and consumption in the Northern Region, DSP Ahaji Jalil Bawah has served notice that some chiefs may soon be handcuffed and shamed over their involvement in the menace.

He indicated that the move is not intended to undermine the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari II, but rather aimed at injecting sanity into the system, given that some traditional rulers appear complicit in the fight against the menace.

Speaking at a public gathering as part of a sensitisation drive on activities of the IGP’s Special Operations Taskforce, he described the canker as a poison to society, rallying all stakeholders to support in wiping the system of criminally-minded persons making mincemeat out of people’s future.

“We are not in the region to disgrace chiefs, but some chiefs want to destroy the future of our children. You cannot be a chief and harbour those selling poison in your home and selling it to others, we must name and shame those chiefs. It won’t be long before we will handcuff some chiefs and let them tell the whole world their role in the trade of illegal drugs. I am speaking on behalf of the IGP, thanking all those who support the fight against the trade, he said.

He also underscored the need for the youth to shy away from the consumption of illegal drugs or risk facing the team in order to restore the lost glory of Dagbon, which was once respected.

Presidential hopeful Bryan Acheampong has highlighted concerns over indiscipline within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that internal disputes could derail electoral success.

“A lot of people in our party, just talking, insulting, fighting… on all platforms, radio, TV, social media, everywhere there’s a banter. There’s no respect for authority, lines are being crossed back and forth.

Nowhere in the world can you win an election with this level of indiscipline,” he stated in a video available to MyNewsGh.

Acheampong contrasted the disorder in the wider party with the orderliness of his campaign team.

“Look at my campaign, you won’t find anybody in my campaign speaking against anybody or insulting anybody. No, you dare not,” he said.

The presidential hopeful stressed that restoring discipline will be his top priority should he assume leadership.

“To start with, I will ensure that everybody downs their tools. Come down, drop your mic, raise your fingers from the screen and let’s have a conversation on how we’re going to communicate to each other, how we’re going to communicate to the external publics going forward.

“That is the first conversation that we’re going to have, 1st of February,” Acheampong declared.

He urged party members to focus on unity and constructive dialogue as the foundation for a successful election campaign.

He used his own campaign as an example of discipline in practice.

“Look at my campaign, you won’t find anyone speaking against or insulting anybody. That is the standard we must all follow,” Acheampong explained.

By focusing on discipline and unity, he aims to strengthen the party’s chances in the upcoming elections.

The Chief of Kokwaado in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region, Nana Kwansah III, has called on politicians and the Judiciary Service to urgently disassociate themselves from matters concerning Chieftaincy.

He emphasized that Traditional Councils in each region, which constitute the membership of the Regional Houses of Chiefs, are the appropriate bodies to resolve Chieftaincy disputes, not the courts.

“It is disheartening and disgraceful for a chief to be dragged to court due to a Chieftaincy dispute instead of the House of Chiefs,” Nana Kwansah fumed.

He further noted that traditional authorities hold the ultimate power to determine who becomes chief and to address any legal impediments to their registration in the National Register of Chiefs.

Nana Kwansah made the appeal during the Mpontu Na Koray3 festival, celebrated by the Chiefs and people of Kokwaadoman in the KEEA District. This year’s festival carried the theme, “Building Ultra Modern Palace, Promoting Peace, Sustaining Our Culture.”

During the celebrations, he also urged President John Dramani Mahama to deploy investors to his paramouncy, citing the area’s vast lands available for government and private investment.

“This would bring developmental projects and create jobs for the youth,” he said, adding that he is willing to provide free land for the construction of a hospital, teachers’ bungalows, police quarters, and other developmental initiatives.

The festival also featured the unveiling of an ultra-modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) facility, aimed at equipping schoolchildren in the area with digital literacy skills.

Musician Florence Obinim has debunked claims that she has gone under the knife over her current looks.

According to her, she has not gone under the knife for surgery to look like how she looks now.

Rather, she lost weight after several days and months of fasting to ensure that her husband’s church gained ground.

“I don’t know where plastic surgery is done. It is the love I have for my husband. So when his church started losing ground, I decided to fast and pray. I stopped singing and started to fast and pray. I could fast and pray for 30 days, 40 days, 120 days.

Anytime I get fat, my husband complains, and also, I also do not want to get fat, so I lose weight drastically as a result of fasting and prayers. I knew he is my husband, and the things that he was going through, I had to stand up for him and that meant me losing weight, ” she stated in an interview on Angel TV in Accra.

Florence Obinim indicated that she has seen the insults online about her recent looks but that will not stop her.

The Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, has made strong political declarations in a video circulating on TikTok, stating clearly that he has never supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and has no intention of doing so.

“I will never support the NDC. I am not affiliated with the NDC and I will not support them till I die,” the traditional ruler said in the video.

Despite distancing himself from the NDC, the Dormaahene disclosed that he was previously aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before his elevation to the bench.

“But I have been an NPP member before. I joined them before I became a judge,” he revealed.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, who also serves as a Court of Appeal judge, went on to commend the current administration under President John Dramani Mahama, insisting that the country is being governed in the right direction.

“The way President Mahama is governing the country, anyone who says it is not in the right direction is a liar,” he asserted.

Legal practitioner and political commentator Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers has cast doubt on the prospects of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia leading the New Patriotic Party into another election, arguing that questions of credibility, particularly on the economy, make such a move politically risky.

Speaking to Roland Walker on TV3’s Big Issues, Brako-Powers acknowledged the uncertainty that often defines internal party contests but stressed that some factors remain decisive regardless of political permutations.

“Anything is possible,” he said, noting that leadership races are rarely predictable. However, he maintained that credibility ultimately shapes voter confidence and electoral outcomes.

From his perspective, the NPP would be better served rallying behind Kennedy Agyapong rather than returning to Dr Bawumia as its presidential candidate.

Brako-Powers argued that the former Vice President faces a credibility gap that cannot be easily ignored, especially after recent economic developments.

“All the cries about economic sovereignty ended with Ghana at the doorstep of the IMF,” he said, pointing to the country’s bailout programme as a defining moment that undermined earlier economic assurances.

According to him, that episode significantly weakened the narrative that once positioned Dr Bawumia as the party’s chief economic problem-solver.

Brako-Powers was blunt in his assessment of what that loss of confidence means for future political messaging.

“If you have lost your economic messianic credibility, you should not be marketed as the solution,” he said, warning against what he sees as a disconnect between past performance and future promises.

In a nutshell, he suggested that re-presenting Dr Bawumia as the face of economic recovery would fail to resonate with the electorate.

Doing so, he argued, would be like “selling something nobody wants to buy,” a move he believes could cost the party dearly.
