Australian police have opened an investigation after actress Ruby Rose publicly accused pop star Katy Perry of sexual assault linked to an alleged incident from 2010 in Melbourne.
According to authorities in Victoria, investigators from the Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team are now looking into the allegation connected to an incident said to have taken place in Melbourne’s central business district. Police have not shared further details because the case is ongoing.
The accusation first surfaced on social media earlier this week when Rose responded to a post discussing Perry’s reaction to a performance at Coachella. In the now-deleted comment, Rose claimed the singer assaulted her at a Melbourne nightclub years ago.
Perry has strongly denied the allegation through her representative, calling the claims false and reckless. Rose’s team has not publicly commented further since the investigation began.
After initially saying she did not want to involve the police, Rose later revealed that she had officially filed a report. She explained that she could no longer speak publicly about the matter and described the process as a step toward healing.The investigation comes during a busy period in Perry’s career.
The singer recently completed a world tour following the release of her 2024 album 143. In 2025, she also made headlines after joining an all-female crew on a Blue Origin space tourism flight alongside figures including Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez Bezos.
