Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has apologized to Nigerians following the widespread backlash over his controversial “Who Naija language help?” comment.
The singer had earlier questioned the importance of Nigerian languages while responding to a follower on X, a statement that quickly sparked criticism across social media.
Initially, Peter dismissed the outrage and challenged his critics, but he later issued a public apology, saying he accepted full responsibility for his words.In his statement, he acknowledged that his comment offended many people and expressed regret for the way it was received.
Peter clarified that he was referring to the various languages spoken across Nigeria and not the Igbo language specifically, as some people had claimed.He stressed that he does not hate the Igbo language, Nigerian languages, or the country’s culture, insisting that his remarks had been misunderstood and taken out of context.The singer concluded by apologizing to everyone who felt offended, saying he never intended to disrespect Nigeria’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.
