The music world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Oscar-winning Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, who has died following a motorbike accident in Dublin.
He was 56.The fatal single-vehicle crash happened in the early hours of Wednesday on Lower Road in Lucan, west Dublin. Emergency responders were called to the scene shortly before 4:30 a.m., but Hansard sadly could not be saved. Authorities have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Hansard rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the Irish rock band The Frames and also appeared in the acclaimed film The Commitments.
His career reached international heights in 2007 when he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Falling Slowly, which he co-wrote for the independent film Once.
Born in Dublin in 1970, Hansard began his musical journey as a street busker before becoming one of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians. He later formed the folk-rock duo The Swell Season and released several solo projects, including Didn’t He Ramble, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album in 2016.In a heartfelt statement, his management confirmed his passing, describing the loss as devastating for his family.
