Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has issued a public warning to her brother, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, telling him not to interfere with the funeral and burial of their late father, Apostle Prof. Emeritus Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, 28 July, Adwoa Safo said the funeral programme has been approved by the Manhyia Palace and will proceed as scheduled. She added that security agencies have been notified to provide protection at all events to prevent any disturbance.
The warning comes amid an ongoing dispute within the Safo family over arrangements for the burial of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The former MP extended the warning beyond the burial itself. She listed three key dates: the burial at Gomoa Mpota on Thursday, 30 July; the main funeral service at Independence Square in Accra on 31 July; and the thanksgiving service at Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on 8 August.
“If they have any intention of coming there, or Independence Square on the 31st, or 8th of August in Kumasi at Prempeh Assembly Hall, to cause any mayhem, he should be reminded that he is under bond to be of good behaviour,” she said.
“We have informed all the law enforcement agencies to provide us with the number of security personnel they can so that he and his thugs cannot come and shoot at me again, and this time, maybe God might not save me again,” she alleged.she did not provide further details about the alleged shooting incident, but said the request for security was made to prevent potential violence.
The Safo family has been publicly divided over how and when to lay Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka to rest. The late apostle was a prominent Ghanaian inventor, industrialist, and religious leader known for founding the Kristo Asafo Mission and for decades of work in indigenous technology.
While Adwoa Safo insists that all necessary approvals have been secured, the Kristo Asafo Mission has said it has not received official notification confirming the funeral dates.
As founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, he built a large following and was also recognized for his work in engineering and manufacturing through the Kantanka Group. His efforts to produce locally made vehicles and other machinery made him a symbol of Ghanaian innovation.His death has drawn tributes from across the political, religious, and business communities. The funeral is expected to attract thousands, given his national profile.
Family disputes over funerals are not uncommon in Ghana, especially when the deceased is a prominent figure. But the Safo family disagreement has played out in the media, with statements from different factions.
Adwoa Safo’s decision to go public with a warning to her brother marks an escalation. By referencing his bail conditions and calling for police presence, she is signaling that she expects confrontation if the dispute is not resolved.
