At least 10 people have been killed in fresh Israeli air strikes across southern Lebanon as fighting between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah continues despite an existing ceasefire agreement.
According to Lebanese authorities, six people lost their lives overnight after an air strike hit a residential building in Kfar Dounine.
Several others were also injured in the attack.Later on Tuesday, Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed that two paramedics working with the Lebanese Civil Defense emergency service were killed in another strike in Nabatieh while responding to an earlier attack.
A third emergency worker was reportedly injured.Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed sorrow over the deaths of the rescue workers, stating that the continued attacks are undermining efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
The health ministry accused Israeli forces of targeting emergency responders and violating international humanitarian law. Officials also revealed that more than 100 healthcare and emergency workers have reportedly been killed in Lebanon since the conflict escalated.Another strike reportedly killed a Syrian man and injured his wife after a drone targeted their motorcycle in the Tayr Debba area.The Israeli military said it was reviewing reports surrounding the attacks. It also claimed that one of the strikes targeted a suspect involved in an attempted missile launch toward an Israeli aircraft.Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it launched drone attacks against Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon and targeted areas in northern Israel.The latest violence comes as Israeli forces intensify military operations against Hezbollah positions, accusing the group of violating the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States earlier this year.The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated in March following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which triggered retaliatory rocket fire from Hezbollah into Israel and a wider military confrontation along the Lebanese border.
Lebanese officials say thousands of people have been killed since the fighting began, while Israeli authorities have also reported military and civilian casualties. Diplomatic talks aimed at ending the conflict are expected to continue in Washington later this week.
