Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about the emotional decision to allow her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo, walk their daughter, Priscilla Ojo, down the aisle during her wedding to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux.
The moment attracted widespread attention after the former couple, who ended their marriage more than two decades ago, appeared together at Priscilla’s traditional wedding ceremony in Lagos. Dressed in matching outfits and seated side by side, their appearance sparked conversations across social media.
Speaking during a recent interview, Iyabo explained that her decision had nothing to do with rekindling a relationship with her former husband. Instead, she said it was a conscious effort to put her daughter’s happiness first and break what she described as a cycle of family conflicts.
According to the actress, she believes that parents should never allow personal disagreements to affect their children. She said she was determined to ensure that her children did not experience the same emotional burdens that often follow broken relationships.Reflecting on the choice, Iyabo said she had to set aside her personal feelings and focus on what was best for Priscilla.
She explained that every parent should strive to create a better future for their children rather than pass down unresolved issues from the past.She also addressed questions about why her ex-husband was given such an important role at the wedding, stressing that he remains Priscilla’s father.”Her father is alive. He didn’t wrong her. The issues between us are between us and should never affect our children,” she said.
Iyabo added that while her marriage to Ademidun ended many years ago, their separation should not deny their daughter the opportunity to have both parents present on one of the most important days of her life.
The actress, who married Ademidun at a young age, has previously spoken about how marrying early contributed to the breakdown of their marriage. Despite their differences, she believes choosing peace for the sake of their children is one of the greatest gifts parents can give.Priscilla Ojo and Juma Jux have since started a new chapter together as husband and wife and are now proud parents to a baby boy, Rakeem Ayomide Mkambala.
