Singer and skit maker Nasboi has criticised Nigerian bloggers for what he described as selective reporting and focusing on less important stories instead of serious national issues.
The entertainer said he regularly speaks about insecurity and other major concerns in Nigeria on X, formerly Twitter, but those posts hardly get attention from blogs.
According to him, bloggers prefer posting his random or lighter tweets, which sometimes makes people wrongly assume he is insensitive to what is happening in the country.
Nasboi said the trend is frustrating because important conversations are often ignored while gossip and celebrity drama dominate headlines.
Speaking on Instagram, he said, “There is no celebrity in Nigeria that talks about insecurity in our country more than me. You can check it on Twitter. But whenever I speak about it and also tweet normal things, the only tweets Nigerian bloggers pick are the random ones, while they ignore the important tweets.”
He also questioned why bloggers give so much attention to personal issues involving celebrities while bigger national matters receive little coverage.“When they post those random tweets, people now think I’m insensitive.
What is our business with the issue between Frank Edoho’s marriage? Nigerian bloggers will amplify those kinds of stories instead. When it comes to distracting the people, most bloggers do it. How many times have they amplified serious issues?” he added.
Nasboi has previously spoken about celebrities using their platforms to discuss politics, insecurity and social issues affecting Nigerians.
