Nigerian singer Tekno has spoken candidly about the difficult period that led to a slowdown in his music career, revealing that many people wrongly believed he had become lazy.
The music star explained that he suffered severe vocal cord damage caused by acid reflux at the peak of his career between 2018 and 2021. The condition left him unable to sing and forced him to step away from music for several years.
Speaking during an interview with Cool FM Lagos, Tekno said he kept his illness private, even from some of the people closest to him. Because no one knew what he was going through, many assumed he simply lacked the motivation to work or perform.”Even the people closest to me were saying that, ‘He is just lazy.
He doesn’t want to perform.’ I was in a very dark place. Even after I recovered, I hated music. I didn’t want to hear music for a long time. I was only forcing myself to do music because I had a deal with Universal,” he said.
According to the singer, the emotional toll of the illness made him lose his passion for music, but reading inspirational books helped him heal mentally and eventually rediscover his love for making music.Tekno’s story has resonated with many fans, highlighting the challenges artists often face behind the scenes and the importance of understanding that not every career setback is caused by a lack of effort.
