President Donald Trump has sharply dismissed Iran’s latest reply to American proposals aimed at ending the ongoing war, describing it as completely unacceptable.
The tensions persist despite a ceasefire that has mostly held, following the war that began in late February with US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Iran sent its counter-proposal through Pakistan, calling for an immediate end to fighting on all fronts, the lifting of the US naval blockade, and guarantees that there will be no more attacks on Iranian territory.Trump made his feelings clear in a post on Truth Social, stating he had read the response from Iran’s representatives and didn’t like it at all.
While both sides appear open to talks, major sticking points remain.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites must be completely dismantled before the war can truly end. On the economic front, Iran continues to block the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil supplies, causing oil prices to spike. In response, the US has maintained a blockade on Iranian ports.
The US proposal reportedly includes demands for Iran to suspend nuclear enrichment, offers the lifting of sanctions, and seeks to restore free movement through the Strait of Hormuz, though many conditions would only apply once a final deal is reached.Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently said his country would never “bow its head” to enemies, while emphasising that any dialogue does not mean surrender.
The situation remains delicate, with recent incidents including drone activity near Gulf countries and warnings from Iran about foreign naval deployments in the region.
