Davido Clears the Air on Seyi Tinubu Friendship, Says He’s Not Part of Any “City Boys” Group

Afrobeats superstar Davido has addressed ongoing criticism over his recent comments on Nigeria’s insecurity and what he described as increasing injustice, making it clear that his personal relationships do not silence his views on national issues.

The singer had earlier admitted that entertainers, including himself, have not done enough to speak openly about the challenges affecting Nigerians.

His remarks sparked mixed reactions online, with some questioning whether his closeness to people connected to political circles affects his ability to criticise government actions.

Responding directly to one critic on X, Davido dismissed claims that he belongs to a political circle known as “City Boys,” saying plainly that he is not part of any such group.

He also pushed back against suggestions that his friendship with Seyi Tinubu prevents him from speaking on issues affecting the country.

According to Davido, their relationship is longstanding and strictly personal, stressing that he has consistently raised concerns about national matters with him directly.

Davido recalled facing backlash in the past after publicly criticising government issues on international platforms, noting that speaking up has often attracted criticism regardless of the audience.

For the singer, the conversation is less about politics and more about encouraging accountability and greater involvement from public figures when national concerns arise.

Juliana Olayode Speaks Up in Defence of Clerics Criticised Over Insecurity Silence

Actress Juliana Olayode has weighed in on the ongoing conversations surrounding Nigerian religious leaders and their response to the country’s security challenges, defending clerics who have been criticised for not publicly addressing the issue.

In a series of posts shared on Instagram, Olayode said she anticipated backlash for her position but felt it was important to offer another perspective.

While agreeing that influential voices—including pastors, imams, sheikhs, and public figures—should speak up more often, she argued that silence on social media does not automatically mean indifference or inaction.

According to the actress, pastors are not activists, even though they may choose to speak on societal or political matters when they feel led to do so.

She stressed that spiritual leaders also carry responsibilities that may involve prayer, intercession, counselling, and engaging people in positions of authority privately rather than publicly.

Olayode acknowledged that public trust in some religious leaders has been affected by negative experiences and misconduct by individuals claiming to act in God’s name.

However, she maintained that genuine clerics still exist and should not all be judged by the actions of others. She encouraged people to avoid measuring impact solely through public statements or social media visibility, noting that meaningful work is not always seen online.

Nollywood Producers Now Need Permission Before Using Afrobeats Songs in Films – Dami Twitch

Filmmaker and music video director Dami Twitch has explained that Nollywood producers can no longer easily include Afrobeats songs in movies without securing proper permission.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Twitch said the situation is largely because many Afrobeats artistes have signed publishing agreements with international companies, making music usage more regulated.

He explained that getting clearance for popular songs now comes with costs that many independent Nollywood producers struggle to afford.

According to him, even personal relationships with artistes do not always help because contractual agreements limit what they can approve.

Twitch added that the growing difficulty is creating tension between the Nollywood and Afrobeats industries, as independent filmmakers may not have enough funding to cover licensing fees.

He noted that collaborations between both sectors are now in a complicated place, with only better-funded projects finding it easier to secure music rights.

Man Sentenced to 15 Years Over Planned Attack at Taylor Swift Concert

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of planning a terrorist attack targeting a Taylor Swift concert during her Eras Tour stop in Vienna.

The suspect, identified in court as Beran A., admitted to being involved in the planned attack ahead of the singer’s scheduled performances in August 2024.

He was arrested just a day before the first of three sold-out shows at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium.

Authorities said the planned attack was stopped after intelligence officials received a warning tip, leading to the cancellation of all three concerts and leaving thousands of fans disappointed and shaken.

During the court hearing, the defendant pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges and apologised for his actions.“I would just like to say that I am sorry,” he told the court before sentencing.

Investigators revealed that the suspect had become radicalised and had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State extremist group.

Prosecutors said he tried to obtain illegal weapons, including a machine gun and hand grenade, and also learned how to make explosives using online extremist materials.

The court heard that he had produced TATP, a highly dangerous explosive substance often linked to terror attacks.A court-appointed psychiatrist testified that the defendant showed no signs of mental illness, saying there was no psychiatric reason behind his radicalisation.Officials said the suspect planned to attack concertgoers outside the stadium using knives and homemade explosives during Swift’s performance.

Another man linked to the same extremist network, identified as Arda K., was also sentenced to 12 years in prison on related terrorism charges.Following the incident, Taylor Swift described the cancellation of the Vienna concerts as heartbreaking and said it left her with “a new sense of fear.” She also thanked authorities for preventing what could have been a tragic loss of lives.

Nasboi Calls Out Bloggers Over ‘Selective’ Reporting

Singer and skit maker Nasboi has criticised Nigerian bloggers for what he described as selective reporting and focusing on less important stories instead of serious national issues.

The entertainer said he regularly speaks about insecurity and other major concerns in Nigeria on X, formerly Twitter, but those posts hardly get attention from blogs.

According to him, bloggers prefer posting his random or lighter tweets, which sometimes makes people wrongly assume he is insensitive to what is happening in the country.

Nasboi said the trend is frustrating because important conversations are often ignored while gossip and celebrity drama dominate headlines.

Speaking on Instagram, he said, “There is no celebrity in Nigeria that talks about insecurity in our country more than me. You can check it on Twitter. But whenever I speak about it and also tweet normal things, the only tweets Nigerian bloggers pick are the random ones, while they ignore the important tweets.”

He also questioned why bloggers give so much attention to personal issues involving celebrities while bigger national matters receive little coverage.“When they post those random tweets, people now think I’m insensitive.

What is our business with the issue between Frank Edoho’s marriage? Nigerian bloggers will amplify those kinds of stories instead. When it comes to distracting the people, most bloggers do it. How many times have they amplified serious issues?” he added.

Nasboi has previously spoken about celebrities using their platforms to discuss politics, insecurity and social issues affecting Nigerians.
