Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has called on Nigerians to stop associating the Fulani ethnic group with banditry, stressing that criminals exist across all ethnic groups in the country.
In a recent statement, the singer said it is unfair and dangerous to assume that every Fulani person is involved in crime, noting that such generalisations could lead to innocent people being targeted or harmed.
He explained that people often judge individuals based on appearance or dressing, especially when they see groups of Fulani people travelling together, which he described as a wrong and harmful mindset.
Portable also pointed out that Nigerians from different ethnic backgrounds live and work across all regions of the country, adding that criminal behaviour should not be linked to any particular tribe.
According to him, the focus should be on identifying and tackling criminals rather than profiling innocent citizens who simply share similar cultural or physical traits with offenders.
His comments have sparked widespread reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing with his message on unity and fairness, while others continue to debate the issue in the context of ongoing insecurity challenges in the country.
