Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has sparked heated reactions online after speaking about the recent school kidnapping incident in Oyo State.
The singer shared a video expressing sadness over the attack, revealing that she only became aware of the situation after seeing a post made by fellow singer Spyro. According to her, she immediately tried to gather more information because she noticed the story was not getting enough public attention.
Tiwa explained that after further searching, she came across a post by media personality KieKie and realised the tragic incident had happened almost two weeks earlier.
Visibly emotional in the video, the singer bowed her head while reflecting on the disturbing news.
The kidnapping incident had earlier thrown many Nigerians into mourning after schoolchildren were reportedly abducted by armed men.
A teacher also lost his life during the attack, while videos linked to the incident circulated online.
However, Tiwa Savage’s reaction did not sit well with many social media users. Critics questioned how such a major incident could have escaped her attention for so long, while others accused celebrities of speaking up only when public pressure becomes intense..
Some online users mocked her emotional delivery, while others claimed she was trying to avoid criticizing the government directly.
A few commenters even labeled her “pro-Tinubu,” suggesting she was being careful with her words.
Despite the criticism, some fans defended the singer, saying not everyone receives information at the same time and that her decision to finally speak out still mattered.
The video has continued to generate mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating the role of celebrities in addressing national issues and insecurity.
