Stella Maris Okafor, the widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has denied allegations that she secretly sold her husband’s properties and kept the proceeds for herself.
Speaking in a recent interview, Stella Maris explained that the sale of the properties was carried out legally under a court order and with the consent of Mr Ibu’s two sons, Valentine Okafor and Daniel Okafor.
She insisted that she was not solely responsible for the transaction, adding that all the necessary documents are available to support her claims.”I have the court order and every document. My husband’s two sons and I followed the legal process. I did not sell the house by myself,” she said.Stella Maris also revealed that she currently runs an online jewellery business.
According to her, she had wanted to start the business while her husband was alive, but he discouraged her because she was focused on acting at the time.She further disclosed that she plans to leave her current residence because the cost of maintaining it is too high.
She explained that she only moved there after her husband’s death due to security concerns and pressure from the public.
Addressing claims made by a young man who alleged online that he is one of Mr Ibu’s children and was denied financial support, Stella Maris said disagreements over money began shortly after the actor’s burial.
She alleged that some family members demanded she share the money people gifted her during the burial ceremony, but she refused because the funds were meant for the welfare of her children.Stella Maris maintained that her actions have been transparent and in line with the law as she continues to address the controversies surrounding her late husband’s estate.
