Former Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has officially joined the United States Army, marking a major turning point in his career after relocating to the US.Momodu recently completed his Basic Combat Training, a milestone he says was inspired by his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, joining the military is a way of honoring his father’s legacy while embracing a new chapter in life.

Born Abubakar Sadiq Momodu, the actor spent more than a decade in Nollywood, appearing in popular productions such as Coming to Nigeria, Play 2 Kill, and A Fool for Trust.

He also featured in hit television series including Tinsel, Soul Sisters, and The Johnsons. Many fans also remember him from Simi’s music video for Joromi.Momodu’s achievements in the entertainment industry earned him the Best Body Male award at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in both 2018 and 2019.

His move into military service adds him to a growing list of Nollywood stars who have chosen a different path after relocating abroad.

Actress Princess Chineke joined the US Army in late 2024 after moving to the United States. She described the decision as answering the call to serve her adopted country.

Actress and producer Mayowa Dosu also announced her enlistment around the same period, saying it marked a significant new direction in her life and career.

Another former Nollywood actress, Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, joined the US Navy in 2025.

She later became a US citizen after completing boot camp and dedicated her achievement to her late father, a former naval commander.Joseph Momodu’s enlistment is especially notable because he is the first publicly known male Nollywood actor to transition from acting into military service in the United States following similar moves by several Nigerian actresses.

His decision reflects a growing trend among Nigerians living abroad who are exploring new career opportunities through military service while building new lives overseas.
