Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has stirred mixed reactions online after sharing her thoughts on commercial sex work and survival.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Moraya Show, the actress said she does not judge women who engage in sex work because of difficult financial situations or family responsibilities.
According to her, some women turn to it out of desperation to support themselves, feed their families or pay school fees for younger siblings.
“If what you are doing now is being a ‘runs girl’ to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it, I never judge,” she said.
Shaffy Bello added that while survival may push some women into such choices, they should see it as temporary and work towards leaving that lifestyle behind.“If you go be ashawo, do am well.
Do it well with respect and your full chest. However, don’t stay there,” she advised. The actress explained that her comments were rooted in understanding the harsh realities many young women face rather than encouraging prostitution as a career path.
Her statement has since generated heavy debate on social media, with some people praising her honesty and empathy, while others criticized the message as controversial.
Shaffy Bello is known for openly speaking about relationships, personal growth and societal pressures, often sparking conversations with her candid opinions.
