Genevieve Nnaji Calls for More Collaboration Across African Film Industries

Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Genevieve Nnaji has spoken about her dream of seeing stronger collaborations between film industries across Africa.

During a recent podcast interview, the award-winning actress said she hopes African filmmakers will begin working more closely together on projects that showcase the continent’s diverse stories and cultures.

According to her, intercontinental productions within Africa have always been something she looks forward to seeing become a reality.

Genevieve also praised the growing number of female producers, directors, and filmmakers making waves in Nigeria’s movie industry.

She described the progress of Nollywood as impressive, especially considering the industry is still relatively young.

She noted that despite being only a few decades old, the Nigerian film industry has achieved remarkable success and continues to show strong potential for growth.The actress expressed excitement about the future of African storytelling and said she is eager to see how the industry evolves in the coming years.

Known globally for producing and directing Lionheart, the first Nigerian movie acquired by Netflix, Genevieve highlighted the richness and depth of African stories. She said she hopes international audiences will continue to discover and appreciate the beauty of Nigerian culture and the African continent as a whole.

The actress was recently honoured at the Women in Cinema gala hosted during the Cannes Film Festival.After taking a long break from acting, Genevieve is also preparing for her return to the screen in Wahala, a six-part thriller series produced by BBC Studios and based on a novel by Theresa Ikoko.
