Ghanaian record label Ground Up Chale and its founder Glen Boateng have taken legal action against rapper Kwesi Arthur, filing a case at the High Court in Accra over alleged defamatory statements made on social media.
The plaintiffs are demanding more than GH¢10 million in damages, accusing the rapper of publishing comments they consider libellous.
They are also seeking a court order to have the posts removed, a restriction preventing further similar statements, and a public apology and retraction issued with the same visibility as the original allegations.
Court documents indicate that the dispute stems from a social media post in which Kwesi Arthur claimed he had not been affiliated with Ground Up Chale since his 2022 project Son of Jacob.
He also alleged that the company continued to assert rights over his music and image despite the claimed separation. In the same post, the rapper further accused the label of withholding earnings from his work and alleged mistreatment during their professional relationship.
He also suggested he had faced pressure and threats, claiming the situation had affected his mental health and creative freedom.
The post quickly gained widespread attention online, sparking heated discussions among fans and industry observers, with hashtags calling for transparency and fairness in artist–label relationships trending across social media in Ghana.
As of now, Ground Up Chale has not issued a public response to the allegations.
The company played a significant role in Kwesi Arthur’s early rise in the music industry and remains a well-known name in Ghana’s contemporary hip-hop and Afrobeats scene.
