Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has opened up about the surprising moment her son, singer Mayorkun, first got in touch with music superstar Davido, revealing that they initially believed the message was from a scammer.
Speaking during a recent interview, the actress recalled that the unexpected direct message came shortly after Mayorkun’s cover of Davido’s song, The Money, gained attention online. At the time, neither she nor her son thought the message was genuine.
According to Toyin, they suspected someone was pretending to be Davido in an attempt to deceive Mayorkun.
However, their doubts disappeared when the award-winning singer personally called him.She explained that Davido praised Mayorkun’s cover performance during the phone conversation and promised to meet him when he returned to town.
The call left the young singer overwhelmed with excitement as he realized the opportunity was real.When they eventually met, Davido reportedly welcomed Mayorkun warmly, gifted him money and several items, and continued building a relationship with the aspiring artist.
Their connection quickly grew stronger, eventually leading to a studio session where they recorded the hit song Eleko.
Toyin revealed that after the recording, Mayorkun and his brother moved into Davido’s residence, marking the beginning of a major turning point in the singer’s career.
The actress also shared her first impression of Davido when she visited her son. Despite her initial fears and uncertainty, she described the music star as respectful, humble, and pleasant.Mayorkun’s rise to fame accelerated after joining Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), where he released several successful songs and became one of Nigeria’s most celebrated artists.
