Legendary American rock band Metallica has donated £20,000 to a food bank in Cardiff, helping provide around 9,000 meals for people facing hardship.
The donation was made ahead of the band’s sold-out concert at the Principality Stadium and was delivered through their charitable foundation, All Within My Hands. The financial support came at a crucial time for the food bank, which had recently appealed for public donations after reporting that its warehouse shelves were nearly empty.
The charity said the contribution would allow it to restock essential supplies and continue supporting thousands of people across the city.According to the organisation, the donation is the largest celebrity contribution it has ever received.
The food bank assists around 20,000 people every year through eight distribution centres and a mobile delivery service, with children making up about one-third of those it supports.Charity officials said food donations have fallen significantly while demand has remained high, making the contribution especially valuable as the rising cost of living continues to affect both families in need and charitable organisations.
Metallica established the All Within My Hands foundation in 2017, using a portion of ticket sales from its tours to support local communities around the world. The foundation has funded food banks, education programmes and disaster relief efforts in several countries.
In addition to the donation, the band partnered with the Welsh Blood Service to encourage fans attending the Cardiff concert to donate blood and plasma through special sessions held across Wales.Volunteers at the food bank praised Metallica for using its global platform to support local communities, saying the donation would help ensure vulnerable families continue receiving essential food supplies during a challenging period.
