A claim made during the burial of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has become one of the most talked-about moments from the emotional ceremony held in Arochukwu, Abia State.
During a stop at the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu as part of the funeral rites, a representative offered prayers for the continuation of the actor’s family lineage.
In his remarks, he mentioned reports suggesting that Alex’s wife, Anwuli Ekubo, might be pregnant and expressed hope that the child would grow to achieve even greater things than the late actor.
The statement quickly gained attention online after videos from the event circulated on social media. While many fans welcomed the possibility of the actor leaving behind a child, describing it as a touching legacy, others questioned whether such personal information should have been shared publicly.
Some social media users argued that matters concerning the family should remain private, especially during a period of mourning, while others expressed excitement and hope that the reports would turn out to be true.
Throughout the burial ceremony, Anwuli Ekubo appeared visibly emotional as she paid her final respects to her late husband. Dressed in white and wearing sunglasses and a face mask, she quietly observed the proceedings, drawing sympathy from mourners and supporters.
Speaking at the funeral, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, described Alex Ekubo’s death as a huge loss to the state, the entertainment industry and his fans across the world.
He praised the late actor as a cultural ambassador whose work brought pride and recognition to Abia State and Nigeria.A sermon delivered during the funeral service encouraged mourners to focus on building meaningful legacies and living lives defined by positive impact and service to others.
Meanwhile, actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli announced that proceeds from The First Lady, the first movie she worked on with Alex Ekubo, would be donated to his family. While many praised the gesture, some felt the announcement could have been made at a later time.
Several celebrities attended the burial, including AY Makun, Obi Cubana, Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo, Pretty Mike, Stan Nze, Nons Miraj, IK Ogbonna and Yomi Casual.Alex Ekubo, who passed away on May 11, 2026, was laid to rest after a series of funeral events that included a service of songs in Lagos and a wake in his hometown before the final burial ceremony.
