Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has criticised the growing trend of online harassment directed at celebrities and creatives during moments of national crisis.
In a social media post, the actress said entertainers are increasingly being “dragged” for either speaking up or continuing their work while sensitive events unfold in the country.
She explained that many filmmakers and creatives take major financial risks, including loans with high interest rates, to produce movies, adding that they should not be expected to suspend their livelihoods because of ongoing national incidents.
Dayo Amusa also addressed what she described as unrealistic expectations placed on public figures to constantly comment on political and security issues, saying celebrities should not be forced to meet online demands or face abuse.
According to her, she has chosen not to be influenced by online criticism, insisting that her focus remains on her career and personal growth.Despite her concerns about online trolling, she expressed sympathy for victims of the recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State, praying for the safe return of abducted teachers and students. She concluded her message by encouraging compassion and understanding while also condemning cyberbullying targeted at public figures.
